FOOTAGE

Videography is my first artistic language.
I got my first Super8 camera at 14 years old. The high cost of the filmstrip forced me to carefully plan each scene before filming. It’s a remarkable exercise of artistic conception.
My way of travelling conformed me to buy small video cameras, so I found the best compromise between quality and compact cameras.
Up until today, while filming in caves, I still have to compromise, adding to that the requirement of waterproof equipment.

VIDEO EDITING

My editing skills started with the Super8 Moviola, then with the 16mm filmstrip in the visual arts school “La Cambre“. Once I graduated in 1996, the Pentium II was just released. It was the first processor able to edit video in real time. Therefore I bought my first PC with Pentium II at 266Hz, the legendary video card Miro 30+, 32 Mo of RAM and 12 Gigas HDD!
This present day I still edit, clourise and sonorise all my films and third party films all by myself.

PHOTOGRAPHY

My passion for photography came much later. I decided to learn photography in order to improve my video image. Slowly this 8th art attracted me so much, until it became a passion.

SPELEOLOGy

Caving is an old story. I started climbing, then canyoning, like some teenagers do, until a friend asked me to visit a real cave. This experience gradually wiped off all my other outdoor activities, up to becoming my main “outdoor” interest.

some words about my job

What is ARXO?

Extreme Video Pictures. Three words to explain the goal of my cinematographic studio. My signature is the Arxo label, that I use in all the films that I direct/make in caves or outdoor environments. Filming and photographing in harsh conditions is amazingly difficult, but taking beautiful pictures, even more.

THE HARSH ENVIRONMENT OF THE CAVES
Caves are fascinating locations, but filming and photographing inside them require special skills and specific equipments. It's impossible to reach certain places in the cave without good knowledge of caving techniques, it's too risky. The body and equipments are exposed to extreme conditions and they require a meticulous preparation, as well as precision logistics.
The cameras and all the accessories must be chosen carefully. As they are often subject to modifications and improvements to withstand harsh working conditions in the caves:

• High level of humidity and sometimes even immersions in the water.
• Resistance to shocks and scratches.
• Lightness for easy transport.
• The densest darkness.
• The physical constriction of rocks and narrow places.
• Difficulty of communication.
It is obvious that under these conditions it's impossible to enter the cave with a common film crew.

ARXO is here for that.

CHOOSING MY COLLABORATORS
Not many people are able to provide a high-quality job in these conditions. Fortunately cavers exist, they are the precious collaborators for ARXO. Photographers, cameramen, assistants and logistics. They all have already work with me and proved their worth.
ARXO WORKS FOR THIRD-PARTY PRODUCTIONS TOO
Arxo is not only made to shoot my own films, but it can also provide services to third-parties or organizations. Currently ARXO is already working for the European Space Agency in projects like ESA CAVES and ESA PANGAEA.
